A Mother’s Prayer: Esther’s Story
A Mother’s Prayer: Esther’s Story

My name is Esther.
My husband and I have five wonderful children.
Having a home has been one of our main goals for our family and our children’s future. It is something I have worked and prayed for.
We were living in an apartment where rent continued rising every year. In addition to the critical condition of the apartment we were living in, we were also faced with living in a dangerous area filled with individuals involved in drugs activities, fighting all the time, bad influences from the neighborhood and the tragic potential consequence, that this may influence our children’s lives and safety.
We decided to do something about it.
We were determined to move from the negative environment to a better one, a peaceful place.
Unfortunately, our credit was not high enough to qualify for a traditional home loan.
I was completely desperate until 3 years ago when the Pastor of First Baptist Church, Dr. Bill Coates, told me about Habitat for Humanity of Hall County. “They build affordable houses in partnership with low income families,” he said. He motivated and mentored me from the beginning to the end of the application process and beyond.
I wasn’t approved the first time around, but got approved the second year with more encouragement from my friends. Mary Nelson, one of my best friends who passed away 2 years ago, and Dr. Bill Coates pushed me to never give up.
It has been 2 years now since I began with the Habitat Homeownership Program. We are currently building on our own house! My family and I are blessed! My husband and I feel more responsible and positive about our family’s future. We praise the Lord every single day for this opportunity we have- our own house! A bright future is in view with a happier childhood for our children.
We’re so excited about it, and we can’t wait for our home to be complete!
It will be the answer to a mother’s prayer.
