Alzheimers Patient
Quality of life improvement for Alzheimers patient
Having raised wise and educated children, when she gained the most prestigious title of all, “Grandma”, Aging In Place homeowner 022-2024 and her husband made the decision to move to Georgia from New York to be near their growing family. Faced with the choice of settling in Suwanee, Sugar Hill, or Gainesville, the couple chose the latter, embracing access to Lake Lanier, the mountains, and more peace and quiet than Gwinnett County could offer. Less than a month after moving, the homeowner was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Frightened and unsure of the future, homeowner 022-2024 vowed to fight, with her husband, children, and grandchildren by her side.
Four years later, homeowner 022-2024 is mostly non-verbal, cared for lovingly at home by her committed husband. As her battle progresses, moments of her personality are increasingly slipping into anger and anxiety, exacerbated by agitating music, sights, sounds, or smells. Recommended by her doctor, her husband invested in a speaker to play calming music through, linen-scented candles, and set out to change the color of their bedroom walls a peaceful sky blue opposed to an aggressive red. Unable to finish the project, due to a fall of his own, he turned to Habitat for Humanity of Hall County for assistance.
Thanks to the talent and generosity of three Habitat for Humanity of Hall County volunteers, a peaceful sky blue enveloped the homeowner’s bedroom after a day’s work. Through paintbrushes and primer, this homeowner is now equipped with resources to hopefully mitigate negativity.
